ROSEAU, Dominica, Jun 24 2016 – On Thursday 16th June, Yuri Jones, founder of Embrace Dominica, a website dedicated to promoting the Nature Island, launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the printing of 1000 copies of his new photo-book, Majestic and Magical. The book is a culmination of 3 years work, with images more than 20 different locations around Dominica. Now launched on Kickstarter, Jones is encouraging the public to support the project by pledging money in exchange for rewards such as a signed copy of the book.
The campaign got to its $1,000 milestone on Sunday 19th June. Of the campaign’s success and challenges, Jones said, “I am very grateful to the supporters who came on board early on to bring this campaign past the $1,000 mark; however, we still have a long way to go. The book features Dominica’s scenery in the best way possible and shows why she is the ‘Nature Island of the Caribbean.’ Every Domincan family should own at least one copy of Majestic and Magical!”
Here are a few basics about the Kickstarter campaign:
- The campaign will expire after 30 days (on July 16th) during which time Backers can pledge their support by using their credit or debit cards;
- There are multiple levels of support and Backers can pledge as little as $2 US. Their level of support determines the rewards they receive. For example, a Backer who pledges $49 US will receive a signed copy of the photo book;
- Kickstarter uses an all-or-nothing model which means that if the campaign does not meet its $16,000 goal, no money exchanges hands and the book will not be published. This protects both potential backers and the owner of the project.
Despite the odds, Jones is confident that with the support of locals, the Diaspora market and non-Dominicans who have fallen in love with the country, his project will be successful.
