10 Killed In Haiti Road Accident

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, May 09 2016 – A serious accident involving two trucks has left 10 people dead in Haiti. The accident occurred Friday night in Coupe à Limbé.

According to the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC), while trying to avoid a truck which had broken down in the middle of the road, a second overloaded truck carrying mostly vendors with their goods, overturned on the side.

According to a first assessment of the National Ambulance Centre (CAN) 10 people died on the spot, adding that the toll could rise as many injured are in critical condition.

Relief operations were made difficult because heavy rains in the area.

Such accidents are common in Haiti where the transport system is precarious, as well as the condition of vehicles and roads.
