19 Missing At Sea

NASSAU, Bahamas, Dec 27 2016 – Brazil’s foreign ministry has been searching the seas between the Bahamas and the U.S. for 40 days for a group of 19 Brazilians trying to enter the U.S. by boat.

Families of the disappeared migrants reached out to authorities on November 15, after 5 days without contact.

The group was attempting to enter the U.S. by sea from Nassau to Miami along with migrants of other nationalities.

Back in February, immigration officials arrested 10 Brazilians trying to enter the U.S. through the Bahamas. They entered the Bahamas on different days as tourists and told immigration officials they’d be travelling around the country.

U.S. immigration officials had already deported five of the Brazilians on former occasions for illegal entry.

Brazilians fly into the Bahamas on tourist visas valid for up to 15 days of travel. From there, they attempt to enter the U.S. on boats or ships.
