22 hurt as flight to Trinidad hits turbulence

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Aug 03 2017 – Twenty-two passengers were injured when an American Airlines flight into Trinidad and Tobago encountered severe turbulence on Wednesday night.

The aircraft encountered air pockets as it approached the Piarco International Airport at around 9.30 p.m.

Turbulence often causes an aircraft to lose altitude suddenly or to shake violently, and it is the most common cause of injury aboard passenger aircraft.

The AA flight was able to land and the aircraft sustained no structural damage.

However, the injured passengers were treated on board by emergency responders and several were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The flight originated at the Miami International Airport with a scheduled flight arrival time of 9.30 p.m. (Trinidad Express)
