3 men arrested in Belize after gang rape of 14-year-old

Belize Police Commissioner Chester Williams says contrary to reports, law enforcement officials acted “swiftly” to arrest the suspects in a case in which a 14-year-old girl was gang-raped in Belize City on Monday night.

Media reports said that the girl was riding a bicycle when four men stopped her and forced her into аn аbаndоnеd hоuѕе іn thе аrеа. Three of the men are reported to have raped her.

“The police officers did give the report the urgency needed. The young lady was immediately taken for medical treatment to be examined. That was done. The police officers visited the area, found where the incident actually occurred. Valuable evidence was found there,” Williams told reporters.

“Those were taken, collected as evidence. And shortly thereafter, police detained three of the young men who did this act and they’re in custody, awaiting to be charged.

“So I think the issue may be that the police need to do more in terms of giving feedback to complainants. Perhaps they felt that that nothing was being done because the police were not giving them feedback. So that is something we have to address internally,” he told reporters.
