A Major Jail Break in Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Jun 19 2015 – The police are searching for several prisoners, many of whom are on charges of murder, who staged a jail break over the past few hours.

The authorities have since released the photos of seven men who escaped from the Savanna-la-Mar police lockup in the western parish of Westmoreland between late Thursday and early Friday.

The police had earlier reported that eight men escaped the lock-up, but subsequent reports indicate that only seven men are on the run.

The authorities said that the men escaped by digging a hole in the ventilation area in the roof of the building.

Shortly after an alarm was raised one of them was recaptured on a property close to the police station.

The other men, including murder suspects, remain on the run.

Police have named the seven men on the run as 21-year-old Romaine Esson, otherwise called ‘Skenko’, charged with murder and shooting with intent;  21-year-old Odane Brown, otherwise called ‘Fee Fee’, of West End, Negril in Westmoreland, who is charged with shooting with intent and robbery with aggravation;  26-year-old Alton Maxwell who was facing charges of murder, illegal possession of firearm and escaping police custody and 26-year-old Junior James, otherwise called ‘Bryan’, who is charged with murder.

The authorities said they were also searching for 20-year-old Ricardo Kerr, otherwise called ‘Jawbone’, charged with robbery with aggravation and shooting with intent as well as 33-year-old Steve Vassell, otherwise called ‘Strength’, charged with murder.

The other escapee being sought is 18-year-old Bushay Grayson, otherwise called ‘Coolie Man’, who is facing robbery charges.

The authorities said they were warning the public that these men are considered dangerous and the police should be contacted immediately if anyone knows their whereabouts.
