Ahead of elections, Montserrat puts moratorium in place for non-nationals

Ahead of upcoming general elections, Premier Donaldson Romeo has announced that his government has put a moratorium until June 1, 2020 for non-nationals residing in the country for 12 years or more, wishing to apply for their Montserrat nationality.

The government has removed the savings requirements of $5,000 or more.

All other requirements remain.

The next general elections in the British Overseas Territory are constitutionally due by November this year.

Donaldson’s ruling People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) won seven of the nine seats in the 2014 general election.
