Another American cruise passenger dies in Belize road accident

Just a day after two American cruise passengers died in a road traffic accident in Belize, another has passed away in a separate incident.

Carolyn Moxley Gillis, 77, was flung from a vehicle after it blew a tire and flipped over several times.

It was claimed she was not wearing a seat belt.

She was traveling with three generations of her family on a private Belize tour who all suffered minor injuries.

The group was sailing on Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas.

Like the Carnival Cruise Line passengers who were killed earlier in a head-on collision with a SUV, Gillis is also a North Texas resident.

Joseph Myvett, head of the Belize National Crime Investigation Branch said the family was traveling to North Belize on a day tour.

Myvett said the driver has been served with a ‘notice of intended prosecution.’

The driver is currently in hospital in a stable condition.
