ANTIGUA-AVIATION-Haiti Must Wait Longer For LIAT Flights

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua, Oct. 23, 2014, CNS LIAT today announced a delay to the launch of services to Port-au-Prince in Haiti and a temporary suspension of flights between Antigua and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

Last month the airline said effective December 5, 2014, it would launch services to Port-au-Prince every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.  It said then that the new route would meet customer demand and provide connections for customers to travel within the Caribbean to and from this growing market.

But in a statement today, Head of Corporate Communications Desmond Brown said “unfortunately aircraft restrictions mean we are having to defer the launch of services to Haiti and temporarily suspend our route between Antigua and Santo Domingo.”

Brown apologised to customers whose travel plans are affected by the suspension.

“They are asked to contact our Call Centre staff who will assist them in making alternative arrangements,” he said.

LIAT said the delay in the launch and the suspension were as a result of amendments to its winter schedule as a result of further refinements to its network.

The airline said four new services per week between Saint Maarten and Dominica will be added from December 1, 2014. On the same date, LIAT will also launch its three additional services between Barbados and Ogle in Guyana bringing its total number of services to Guyana to 10 per week.
