BARBADOS – Jamaican woman handed over to immigration

Jamaican national Brittany Hiki Edwards, who had been on remand at HMP Dodds for the past four months, was handed over to immigration officials on Monday.

Edwards had been at the St Philip penal institution since August charged with causing serious bodily harm to fellow Jamaican Lorrena Brown with intent to maim, disfigure or disable her.

Brown was stabbed about the body on August 24, and had been hospitalized with severe injuries. She has since been released and subsequently left the country.

When Edwards appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick yesterday, the court was informed that she had settled Brown’s medical bill at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as requested. The matter was then dismissed which resulted in Edwards being released into the custody of the Immigration Department.
