BARBADOS – Three Canadians nabbed on arrival

Three young Canadian visitors on Monday pleaded guilty to the importation of more than 24 kilos of cannabis and were ordered to pay fines after they were nabbed on arrival at the airport here on Sunday.

They are 26-year-old Jordan Alexander Pinelli; 19-year-old Lamar Diamonte Newman and 18-year-old Illicia Jade Orr-Campbell.

The trio was arrested and formally charged with possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of cannabis after they arrived on the island by air from Canada.

A subsequent search of their luggage by customs officers revealed that they each had packages of cannabis concealed in their suitcases.

Pinelli was caught with 41 packages with 12.3 kilos of cannabis, whereas Newman and Orr-Campbell were each caught with 19 packages with six kilos of cannabis.

They appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District ‘C’ Magistrates’ Court where they pleaded guilty to the offences.

Pinelli was fined $10,000 for possession of cannabis and $10,000 for importation of cannabis. He was also convicted, reprimanded and discharged on a charge of possession with intent to supply and reprimanded and discharged on a charge of trafficking

Newman and Orr-Campbell were fined $5,000 each for possession of cannabis and $10,000 each for importation of cannabis. They were convicted, reprimanded and discharged on charges of possession with intent and reprimanded and discharged on trafficking.
