BARBADOS – UWI students visit British High Commission

A group of third year students from the University of the West Indies spent a morning at the British High Commission recently.

They were welcomed by Acting High Commissioner Craig Fulton, and given an overview of the range of responsibilities of a modern embassy.

Senior section heads from consular, management, political and trade sections explained how they interacted with the local community.

A representative from the Department for International Development – UKAid – gave a briefing on DFID’s support of the region following hurricanes Irma and Maria and through the Caribbean Infrastructure Fund.

Dr Ricardo Kellman lecturer and class leader was very pleased that his students could gain a first hand knowledge of how a diplomatic mission operates.

He said, “The visit to the British High Commission provided another excellent opportunity for students enrolled in the Theories and Practice of International Negotiations and Diplomacy course to engage with representatives of the mission.  The experience deepened the desire of students to continue exploring the multifaceted nature of negotiation and diplomacy.”
