ROSEAU, Dominica, Dec 10 2015 – Secretary General elect of the Commonwealth, Baroness Patricia Scotland, will be visiting Dominica at the invitation of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

Scotland, who was born in Dominica, is scheduled to arrive on Friday, December 11 and depart on the 15.

During her four-day visit, the Vieille Case Primary School will be renamed in her hour.

Dominicans will also have the opportunity to hear from Scotland and to show their appreciation on her election to office at a national event planned on Monday evening.

The event will be hosted by the government and will take place at the State House where she will be officially welcomed by Skerrit and the Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Senator Francine Baron.

Scotland will replace the outgoing Indian former Minister of Foreign Affairs Kamalesh Sharma as Commonwealth Secretary General.

A former Attorney General in the UK, she was nominated by Dominica for the post and was one of two Caribbean nationals seeking the top post within the Commonwealth, a voluntary association of 53 independent countries and home to 2.2 billion citizens.

The last Caribbean national to serve as Commonwealth secretary general was Sir Shridath Ramphal, who was elected to the post in 1975 and served two terms.
