BERMUDA – Second US tourist drowns within a week

Police Friday confirmed that a 39-year-old American visitor died after getting into difficulty swimming off Bermuda’s best-known beach. He is the second American national to have died here at a beach in the week.

Police named the latest victim as Jacolbe Fleming of Jonesboro, Georgia, who was swimming off Horseshoe Bay in Southampton parish on Thursday when he encountered difficulties.

Lifeguards at the beach performed CPR on Fleming, who was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On Monday, 62-year-old American Yvonne Aites, a cruise ship passenger from Massachusetts,  died after falling off a jet ski off the Cambridge Beaches resort in Sandys parish and lost consciousness.

An autopsy confirmed the cause of her death as drowning, police said.

  1. I was there when this happened and it was not a drowning. He had a heart attack in the water and was pulled out before he was under water. Problem was he was over 300 pounds
