Canadians know their fate today

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Jul 05 2017 – Two Canadian men will know their fates Wednesday after pleading guilty to several drug offences committed at one of this country’s main ports of entry.

Austin Clifford Acheson, 22, and Elvis Hermiz, 20, pleaded guilty to possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of cannabis.

The drugs were found in their luggage after they arrived at the Grantley Adams International Airport from Canada on July 2.

Acheson had concealed in a false bottom of his suitcase 26 sealed packages containing the illicit drug, weighing 13.5 pounds and with an estimated street value of $48,800. Hermiz had 24 packages weighing ten pounds, with an estimated street value of $40,000.

The two men who appeared before Magistrate Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell in the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court Tuesday were remanded to HMP Dodds after the facts of the case were presented by the police prosecutor.

They return before the same magistrate on Wednesday for sentencing.
