More than 750 health workers from Cuba, have arrived in several islands ravaged by Hurricane Irma.
The workers who were sent to Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts Nevis, St Lucia, The Bahamas, Dominica and Haiti, have been told to follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Public Health and to contribute to the recovery of regions hard hit by the powerful storm.
“The collaboration of the Central Medical Cooperation Unit, together with the Minsap Management Center, and our embassies, have maintained the communication to assess the damages and assess what help our own collaborators could provide,” said Regla Angulo Pardo, the director of the Central Unit of Medial Cooperation in Cuba in an interview with the Granma newspaper.
Meanwhile, the UN World Health Organisation (WHO) and its regional arm the Pan American health Organisation (PAHO) said it would deploy persons with expertise in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health and disaster assessment to support the hurricane affected countries to help with the delivery of essential health services.
