Jamaican dancehall artiste, Elephant Man, has been charged for breaches of the Immigration Act.
It’s alleged that last week he failed to make truthful declarations to immigration authorities at Sangster International airport in Montego Bay, St James.
The artiste is now quarantined in a government facility.
According to the police, a team from the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch, C-TOC, visited the entertainer’s home and served him a summons.
He’s been charged with breaching Section 9 (5) of the Immigration Act which mandates people arriving in Jamaica to make a truthful declaration to immigration authorities upon arrival.
He’s to appear in court on April 15.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dahlia Garrick, is urging Jamaicans to be truthful in their declarations to avoid prosecution.
The fine for such an offence is a paltry JMD$100.
However, the artiste is likely to be more concerned about the possible implications of acquiring a criminal record should he be charged and convicted.
Police Commissioner, Major General Antony Anderson, last week directed that an investigation be launched after a voice note emerged with an immigration officer accusing Elephant Man of failing to declare to authorities that he visited Germany, which is affected by the Novel Coronavirus.
The artiste in an initial social media video denied the allegation.
But he later apologized for incorrectly completing the declaration form.
