EarthMedic and EarthNurse Helping the world during the difficult times

EarthMedic is a Non-governmental Organization (NGO), formulated as the means to tackle the big challenges in planetary health — namely climate change and noncommunicable diseases (NCD’s) — by Dr. James Hospedales, the former Executive Director of the Caribbean Public Health Agency CARPHA.

EarthNurse is being co-founded by Maggie Fay, Nurse specialist in the United Kingdom, as a companion NGO.

Hospedales stated: “Today it’s COVID, tomorrow it’s Climate change — we need to act now to avoid extreme catastrophe, beyond the damage we have already sustained to lives, livelihoods and the planet, especially in climate vulnerable regions, such as the Caribbean, Africa and Latin America.”

“EarthNurse Co-founder Maggie Fay stated: “We aim to build a home for nurses and doctors and others concerned about the climate and health emergency we face, where we can safely discuss our concerns, make connections and share ideas and resources.”

The Soft Launch of EarthMedic and EarthNurse represents an interactive organic growth opportunity for the organizations.

It is a chance for potential members and partners to:

  • Learn about who we are.
  • Learn about our Planetary Health Goals (PHG’s).
  • Meet some of EarthMedic’s and EarthNurse’s Supporters.

It will also see the release of Our EarthMedic-EarthNurse Pledge, a free dance tutorial, and a chance to show off your skills in a Tik-Tok Dance Challenge.

This Soft Launch of EarthMedic and EarthNurse will connect public, private, civil society and academic partners and allow the organizations to hear from professionals and the public at large who will attend the event.

Health and environment professionals in the Caribbean and elsewhere face the adverse health consequences of climate change more than any others — hotter, drier weather overall, with more Category 5 Hurricanes, which last longer, and inundations of rain.

NCDs like heart disease, diabetes, cancer are also symptoms of planetary ill-health as motorized transport, mechanized agriculture and poor-quality food has spawned a sedentary, overweight population, alarmingly; including in children.

EarthMedic and EarthNurse are global in scope, with special focus on climate-vulnerable regions, anchored in Caribbean small island developing states (SIDS), and based in Trinidad and Tobago, and in England, UK.
