US carrier Eastern Airlines will commence scheduled services between New York and Guyana on July 11 according to its website.
Officials from the airline met with officials fron the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority earlier this year and received approval to the launch its non-stop scheduled services from New York to Guyana on March 5, 2020.
Eastern had proposed to operate two weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays, however a delay and subsequently the COVID-19 pandemic put a pause on all scheduled international comercial flights.
Throughtout the temporary suspension scheduled international passenger flights into Guyana, Eastern has been operating special approved repatriation flights between Miami and Guyana.
A statement from the airline says that they are waiving change fees and that customers will be permitted to change free of charge to a flight of equal or lesser value up to 6 months from the original ticket issue date. If the new flight is priced higher, the customer may change for no change fee but must pay the fare difference.
American Airlines and Caribbean Airlines will resume services around the second week of August.
A team from the Civil Aviation Authority and other health officials inspected the COVID-19 measures in place at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport last week in preparation for the July 1 reopening.
