Six Killed As Vehicle Plunges Into Gorge

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Jul 16 2016 – Six people were killed late Friday when the vehicle in which they were traveling plunged into the Bog Walk Gorge in the central parish of St. Catherine.

The police, who went to the scene early Saturday, reported that shortly after midnight (local time), the driver of the vehicle, with six passengers, attempted to beat the traffic light, located on the Flat Bridge in the gorge.

According to eyewitness reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle which then overturned into the Rio Cobre.

The police say all seven were trapped in the vehicle, however one of the occupants managed to climb onto the roof of the vehicle and was rescued.

During the search and rescue operation, the bodies were recovered  – they were all pronounced dead at hospital.

The police are still processing the scene of the tragedy.
