ROSEAU, Dominica, Apr 27 2016 – Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says he intends to win the Soufriere by election “by a big margin as a tribute to Ian Pinard” who announced that he had resigned the seat during a public meeting here on Tuesday night.

“Tonight I am saddened by his resignation but I am touched by his honour. Ian Pinard is a stalwart of the Dominica Labour Party,” Skerrit said, announcing that he was “standing four square with my colleague Ian Pinard.

“We shall not turn our backs on him, we shall not throw him to the wolves or under any bus. His happiness is our happiness and his grief is our grief, his pain is our pain,” said Skerrit, the DLP leader, urging supporters to ensure that they return the party in the bye-election.

The embattled Pinard, who resigned as public works and ports minister in March amid allegations made against him of “serious inappropriate behaviour”, told party supporters that he is confident that “due process will establish my innocence and in the long run, I will be vindicated”.

Police recently charged three people after concluding their investigations into a report of alleged inappropriate behaviour involving three adults and a 15-year-old child.
