Former Montserrat Chief Minister on Sexual Offences Charges

BRADES, Montserrat, Sep 22 2015 – Former chief minister David Brandt has described as “totally false” two sexually related charges laid against him by the police on Monday.

Brandt, a prominent lawyer, who served as chief minister of this British Overseas territory from 1997-2001, was released on EC$20,000 bail. He is due to return to court on December 7.

He has been charged with having unlawful sexually intercourse with a girl under the age of 16 years and conspiring to have unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 16 years.

The allegations date back to 2010.

As part of his conditions for bail, Brandt in his late 60’s is restricted from making any contact with any of the witnesses in the case either in person, or through any of his servants or agents.
