GRENADA – CARICOM chairman touring hurricane battered countries

The chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr Keith Mitchell, is today leading a delegation to countries battered by Hurricane Irma that ploughed through the Lesser Antilles last week leaving a trail of death and millions of dollars in damages.

Mitchell, the Grenada Prime Minister, is being accompanied by CARICOM Secretary General Irwin La Rocque as well as the executive director of the Barbados-based Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, Ronald Jackson.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister said that the delegation’s first stop will be the British Virgin Islands (BVI) followed by Anguilla. The team will overnight in Antigua and visit Barbuda early Wednesday, before returning to Grenada.

“This is the first of several visits in an expression of solidarity and support to all our regional brothers and sisters affected by Irma,” the statement noted.
