GUYANA – Jamaican national among several held with marijuana and assault rifles

A Jamaican national was among several men held by law enforcement authorities here during a raid carried out in the North West District on Tuesday.

Around 4 p.m., a party of police ranks along with Guyana Defence Force Coastguard ranks went to Barima River, North West District, where they intercepted one metal boat which was towing a blue and grey fibreglass boat.

The boat was captained by 62-year-old Carrigon Khan of Jack Low Pomeroon River along with three occupants.

A search of the blue and grey fibreglass boat was conducted. Under the bow, two AK 47 assault rifles along with two magazines and 19 live matching rounds were discovered. One black bulletproof vest and a black hand bag with a quantity of marijuana were also found.

Junior Jack, 19 , a sailor of Mabaruma, North West District, Donstant Rodrigues, 38, a captain of Mora Moruca, North West District, Samuel Alvaroz, 25, a Cuban national, Shawn Phang, 49, a miner of School Road, Port Kaituma, North West District, Dexter Valensuela, 44, a captain of Craine, West Coast Demerara, Corwin Griffith, 48, a captain of Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, Delroy Mairs , 53, a mason of Albouystowns and a Jamaican national, Rafael Ramon, 33, a Venezuelan national and Carrigon Khan, 62, a captain of Jack Low Pomeroon River were all taken into custody.
