Guyanese National Stabbed, Throat Slit

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Feb 19 2017 – Trinidad and Tobago’s murder toll continues to climb with the stabbing death of a 29-year-old Guyanese national yesterday in Chaguanas.

Police reports said Joel Mentor was last seen by his 26-year-old roommate at about 4 a.m. yesterday in their apartment at Henderson Street, Caroni Savannah Road, Chaguanas, before he retired to bed.

At about 10 a.m., Mentor’s roommate woke up and upon entering the living room on the northwestern side of the apartment, he found the 29-year-old lying on his back in a pool of blood.

Mentor appeared to have suffered multiple stab wounds about his upper body. There was a towel over his head.

The police and emergency health services were notified and a team of officers led by Snr Sup McIntyre visited the scene.

The towel was removed and officers observed that Mentor’s throat had also been slit.

Mentor, police said, was not known to them. He was said to be employed at a restaurant in Woodbrook.

Police had no official motive for the killing yesterday.

The murder toll for the year so far stands at 78.
