Emmanuel Cantave, Haiti’s Secretary of State for Social Affairs attached to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) died on Tuesday following a COVID-19 infection.
He was, in fact, the first member of the current government to die from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
He was treated at the care center for patients with COVID-19 located in Delmas 2.
Another member of the government, the Secretary of State for Communication, Eddy Jackson Alexis announced the news on Twitter.
He also announced more details at a conference during the day.
This leader of the Ansanm Nou Fò party was appointed from the nine secretaries of state chosen by Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe to complete his government last March.
He was an influential member of the Fanmi Lavalas party before Jean Bertrand Aristide’s departure from power in 2004.
