Haiti’s PM apologizes and admits he used words ‘a little too strong’

“… I apologize publicly to the government in general, more specifically to my colleague Boisvert, the Minister of the Economy and Finance. He is a very decent person… ”.

These are the Prime Minister’s words after he was heard saying that the Haitian State does not exist.

“I used words that were a little too strong …”, apologized the head of government.

However, Joseph Jouthe argued that during his private conversation with a senator, which was taped without his knowledge, the words used against the Minister of Finance were in an appropriate context.

His private conversation having been recorded without his knowledge, the head of government revealed that he had this conversation with a senator during a visit to the city of Hinche.

However, he took care not to reveal the name of this parliamentarian. According to the Prime Minister’s explanations, while he was on the phone with the senator in question, journalists were circulating around. The PM said he had not accused anyone and promised to be more careful next time.

“I have learned the lesson, I am sorry for the damage it has caused to my government as well as to my Minister of Finance …”, he recognized.

Joseph Jouthe said he asked the government commissioner of Hinche to investigate the matter in order to identify the person who had recorded his remarks. “I gave the authorities a list of the people who were present at the time of the conversation …”, he added.

For those who believe that the Prime Minister should resign after his declarations, Joseph Jouthe said that the days he spent at the Prime Minister’s Office are secondary. “The post of Prime Minister is the post of a moment. Before being Prime Minister I was somewhere …,” he said.

Recorded without his knowledge, the Prime Minister’s declarations went viral social networks.
