JAMAICA – Canadian brothers accused of raping American woman released on bond

Two Canadian brothers, accused of raping an American woman at a hotel in Hanover, have been released on bond.

Justice Martin Gayle of the Supreme Court granted the men bail in the sum of $350,000 each last week, following an application by their attorney, Peter Champagnie.

Champagnie appealed to Justice Gayle after a Parish Judge refused to release the men on bail when they appeared before the Hanover Parish Court on January 16.

The brothers, aged 18 and 22, were arrested on December 29 following allegations that they raped a 20 year old American woman at the hotel.

The men, who are from Ontario, have denied the allegations.

They return to court on January 30 when a medical report is to be submitted.
