Businessman Elia ‘Leo’ Taddeo, the Canadian developer who was charged with the sexual touching of two females, has been cleared of all charges.
When the matter came up in the St Catherine Circuit Court this morning, it was agreed that there was no evidence on which to prosecute Taddeo.
On Tuesday, lawyers representing Taddeo pointed out to the court that the complainants retracted their statements given earlier against the businessman.
This morning, Taddeo’s attorney Able Don Foote indicated that a nolle prosequi was tendered by the Crown by way of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
A nolle prosequi is a formal notice of abandonment by the prosecutor of all or part of a suit.
The businessman was arrested and charged in 2015 after a report was made to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse that he had touched three teenagers inappropriately.
During his many court appearances, Taddeo denied the charges, claiming the allegations were made as part of an attempt to extort him.
