Jamaica, Cuba struck by their ‘biggest earthquake on record’

A powerful earthquake has struck between Cuba and Jamaica triggering a tsunami warning.

The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.7 hit the south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica at 2.10 p.m. (local time), said the US Geological Survey.

According to Earthquake Track, it is the highest magnitude earthquake both of the islands have ever recorded.

It was reportedly felt in several other countries, including The Bahamas, Cuba, Cayman Islands, Haiti and Honduras.

Following the quake the US Tsunami Warning Centre issued a tsunami warning for Jamaica, Cuba and the Cayman Islands.
