JAMAICA – Woman who stole baby sentenced to three-years probation

A woman who stole a one-day-old baby from the University Hospital of the West Indies last December was sentenced this morning to three years probation with psychiatric counselling.

The sentence was handed down in the Home Circuit Court by Justice Martin Gayle a short while ago.

Forty-nine-year-old Lorna Williamson pleaded guilty during sentence reduction day last month.

Williamson, a medical assistant at the hospital, stole the baby from the health facility a day after it was born.

She was found in possession of the baby by police after the parents of the young child reported it missing.
