Jamaican Woman Jailed In Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Feb 10 2017 – A Jamaican woman has been sent to jail after she was convicted on a number of drug related offences, which were committed at the Grantley Adams International Airport on February 8

Roseanne Rocky Simmons, 38, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Simmons arrived on the island by air and after clearing immigration, she was searched by customs where five taped packages containing the cannabis were discovered in a false top of her suitcase.

Simmons appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District ‘C’ Court where she pleaded guilty to the offences.

She was fined $5000.00 forthwith or 18 months in prison for the offence of possession of cannabis, $5000.00 forthwith, or 18 months in prison for the offence of importation of cannabis; reprimanded and discharged on the offence of trafficking; and convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the offence of possession with intent to supply.

The fines were not paid, and Simmons was sentenced to rwo 18 month’s term in prison to run concurrently.
