PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Feb 11 2016 – The body of a Japanese woman who came here to participate in the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival celebrations has been found in the Queen’s Park Savannah.

Police late Wednesday night said she had been identified as Asami Nagakiya and that she still wore the Carnival costume when the body was found.

The woman was found lying in an awkward position, slumped over exposed roots of a massive tree in the Savannah with one hand behind her back. She bore minor lacerations on one of her elbows and on her face and her hair was tousled.

The police statement said that the woman, who appears to have been between the ages 20-25, was a regular visitor for the Carnival, which ended on Tuesday and played for a Port of Spain based steel band along with a group of other Japanese nationals.

Police said that two cleaners employed with the Port of Spain City Corporation found Nagakiya’s body.

Police said that the woman’s body was clad in a yellow and teal coloured bikini- type costume and had a wrist band of one of the Carnival bands here.

An autopsy is expected to be done later on Thursday.
