ST JOHN’S, Antigua, Mar 24 2016 – A High Court judge on Thursday ordered the release of opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) Senator, Damani Tabor who had been in police custody since Wednesday afternoon.

He was arrested for questioning based on a complaint of alleged public mischief.

Tabor’s arrest came after Prime Minister Gaston Browne called on him to retract comments about alleged missing funds from the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU).

In addition to arresting the UPP senator, lawmen also allegedly served him with a search warrant which gave investigators authority to confiscate a number of electronic devices, including his cellular phone.

Since Tabor made the allegation on radio several weeks ago, the Prime Minister has been demanding an apology. The police also contacted Tabor several times, asking him to report to Police Headquarters to provide a statement with respect to his claim that $500,000 was missing from the unit.

Tabor’s lawyer Harold Lovell and his father Charlesworth Tabor, who is also an attorney, filed a writ of habeas corpus which is an allocation seeking his immediate release from police custody.
