GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Feb 26 2016 – A High Court judge has sentenced a 39-year-old cameraman to 25 years in jail after he was found guilty of raping his 13-year-old relative.
Justice Navendra Singh imposed the sentence on Andre Hetsberg, a cameraman who was attached to TV Guyana, Channel 28, after it took the jury just a few hours to unanimously return the guilty verdict.
The two-day trial was held in camera and the convicted man broke down in tears after the judge passed the sentence.
Hetsberger was charged in January 2015 with rape after a 13-year-old relative whom he and his wife cared for, complained that he had sexually molested her. He was granted bail at the Magistrate level of his trial.
He maintained his innocence throughout the court case.
