Media Workers Protest

ST JOHN’S, Antigua, Jul 29 2015 – About a dozen workers at the state broadcaster ABS took to the streets this morning in protest.

Shop Steward Jermaine Kentish said they are continuing to call for ABS General Manager Erna Mae Braithwaite to be replaced.

And he says they were spurred into action by the latest move to transfer him to the Ministry of Health…a move he is resisting

“They have made some stance for the last three months which haven’t been addressed by neither ministry, minister or by the management. They want to have Mrs. Braithwaite removed as general manager from ABS, they also want the buildings to be properly maintained,” Kentish said.

The ABS shop steward said carnival coverage by the state broadcasters is in jeopardy if the workers’ demands are not met.

“Who could not make it for the protest, they have decided to stay home and those who won’t stay home, some have reported to work but are just sitting down refusing to work, this morning. Now we have the cameramen with us 100 percent and without the cameramen, I think they are going to have a tough time giving quality services to the people of Antigua and Barbuda.”
