PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Apr 11 2016 – The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard Monday said that it had seized more than a million dollars worth of marijuana and detained five men during an operation on Sunday.

In a statement, the Coast Guard said that one of its vessels was on routine patrol along the south coast of the country when it intercepted a pirogue with crocus bags and five men on board.

“The vessel and its occupants were escorted to the Coast Guard’s Cedros Base where seven crocus bags containing 228 packets of marijuana, weighing a total of 148.75 kilograms, with an estimated street value of TT$1.5 million were recovered from the pirogue.”

The Coast Guard said that the men and the narcotics were handed over to the Organised Crime Narcotics and Firearms Bureau (OCNFB) for further processing.
