Deputy Premier Mark Brantley led his Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) to victory in Monday’s Nevis Island Administration (NIA) elections, according to the preliminary results released here.
Supervisor of Elections Elvin Bailey said the CCM, which is a partner in the coalition Team Unity government of Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris, won four of the five seats that were at stake in the polls.
The other seat was won by former premier Joseph Parry of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP).
Brantley took over the leadership of the CCM from outgoing premier Vance Amory and in a congratulatory message Prime Minister Harris described the victory as “decisive”, while praising Amory for his ‘strong, principled leadership for more than two decades”.
He said the CCM had developed a close working relationship and “our friendship and mutual respect have only grown stronger over these past 34 months as we worked diligently towards achieving greater prosperity for all citizens and residents of both Nevis and St. Kitts.”
In the 2013 election, the CCM won three seats to oust the NRP administration.
