Plane Crashes at Punta Gorda Airstrip in Belize

BELMOPAN, Belize, Jun 03 2015 – Civil aviation officials are investigating the crash of a two-seater single engine aircraft at the Punta Gorda airstrip. The crash occurred on Friday.

The authorities say while the pilot, Michael Bogacz escaped unscathed, his female passenger, Jennifer Sobre had been taken to the Punta Gorda Hospital in a critical, but stable condition.

Police Inspector Ernel Dominquez said that the plane crashed near the compound of the Ministry of Works and suffered extensive damage to its front, wings and tail end.

He said the authorities are working on the theory that the plane developed mechanical problems while in the area of the airstrip and was forced to crash land.

“As a result of the impact, the passenger at the time, who is a female American national accompanying the male pilot, received injuries to the head. The pilot, an American, escaped unhurt. The matter is under investigation,” he added.
