Police Detain UPP Executive

ST JOHN’S, Antigua, Dec 13 2013 – Charges are yet to be laid against United Progressive Party (UPP) Caretaker for the St George Constituency, George Wehner, who spent Monday in police custody.

Wehner is being questioned by police after he was listed as a person of interest following a resolution, last week,  tabled by Prime Minister Gaston Browne in Parliament.

Wehner is accused of making a video depicting Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP)’s Members of Parliament and the Speaker of the House under crosshairs juxtaposed with videos of rapid gunfire.

A member of his legal team, Attorney Leon Chaku Symister said the retired soldier was detained shortly after 9:00 am Monday at St John’s Police Station and was later taken to Police Headquarters.

According to the lawyer, the police are alleging that his client, “may have” violated the Electronic Crimes Act and or the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
