A 30-year-old police constable has been charged with murder after the burnt remains of the victim was discovered in the capital last year.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that Junior Hayles, a police constable assigned to the Kingston East Division, and 34-year-old Nicola Montaque, a beauty therapist, had been charged with the murder of 33-year-old Vince Walcott, also known as ‘Steven Chambers’.
Police said that on July 21 last year residents observed tyres burning behind a church and summoned the fire brigade and after the fire was extinguished lawmen discovered the burnt remains of a man.
The CCU said that post mortem examinations revealed that the man died from gunshot wound to the head.
It said that following investigations, the case file, which included a range of forensic evidence, was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for a ruling.
The DPP subsequently ruled that both individuals who were identified as suspects during the investigations be charged. They are due to appear in court at a later date.
