Probe underway into fish kill in Rio Cobre, Jamaica

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is investigating what it describes as a “minor fish kill” in the Rio Cobre in St Catherine on Saturday.

This incident, according to NEPA, is reportedly due to a pollutant in the river. The agency said the affected area is in the vicinity of Jericho.

Responding to the incident, Angela Hamilton, Manager Public Education and Corporate Communication at NEPA said, “Our staff has been deployed and is currently investigating the matter and every effort is being made to contain the spread of the pollutant along the river.”
