ROSEAU, Dominica, Mar 08 2016 – A prominent Dominican charged with inappropriate behaviour involving a minor will return to court on Friday after his lawyers Monday asked for a judicial review of the matter facing their client.
The man is one of three people charged with offences arising from the “inappropriate behaviour” but under Dominican law none of them could be named until there is a conviction.
The “inappropriate behaviour” incident has led to the resignation of public works and ports minister, Ian Pinnard, who told Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit that his decision to quit the Cabinet would allow him to “more appropriately address the allegations against me and also in order to focus on other very important personal matters”.
Two other people, including a politician and a businessman have been charged and released on EC$15,000 and EC$75,000 bail respectively.
The politician must receive permission of the court if he is to leave the island as well as having to report to a police station every Monday and Friday. He should not have contact with the virtual complainant and her mother by person or through any agent. He is due to return to court on July 31.
