RBC Royal Bank makes $700,000 donation to TT Red Cross Society

RBC Royal Bank on Tuesday announced that the Red Cross Society of Trinidad and Tobago has received TT$700,000 to help support vulnerable families and individuals with access to food during the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

RBC’s donation is expected to assist more than 1,000 people across Trinidad and Tobago by providing food vouchers and gift cards to be redeemed at Massy Stores, JTA Supermarkets, Maharaj Westside Supermarket, Jumbo Foods, West Bees, and Penny Savers in Tobago.

This donation is part of a larger USD $330,000 initiative previously announced by RBC to help support food security across the Caribbean.

In addition to Red Cross societies across the region, donations are also being made to Hands for Hunger in The Bahamas, and Cayman Feed our Future and the Cayman Food Bank in the Cayman Islands.

This initiative is on top of RBC’s global commitment of more than CAD $2 million to fight COVID-19 through various partners such as the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, Feeding America, and Food Banks Canada.

“This gift will go directly to feeding those severely affected by this pandemic,” says Jill De Bourg, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society.

“We can give our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the families who are struggling with food insecurity. Particularly in these uncertain times, when food needs are likely to grow, it’s important to receive aid from our corporate partners as now more than ever we all need to support each other.

“We are reminding everyone to be responsible because #WeAreInThisTogether,” she added.
