Saint Lucia PM expresses renewed concern as island records 18th COVID-19 case

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has expressed renewed concern that Saint Lucia’s 18th COVID-19 case has no known travel history and comes from an area on the East Coast.

Chastanet said on his official Facebook page that authorities continue to receive reports of illegal entry to the island via unofficial channels from that area.

He urged citizens to report any cases of illegal entry to assist the authorities as Saint Lucia continues to intensify surveillance in those areas.

“We expect to record more cases due to this latest case of community spread, combined with the fact that our testing capacity has been improved after receiving 5,000 test kits this weekend,” the PM stated.

The Island’s latest COVID-19 case was detected among a batch of 52 tests, which were conducted this weekend.

The other 51 samples tested negative.

“Continue to take the necessary preventative measures. Sanitize yourself frequently, avoid touching your eye, nose and mouth, practice physical distancing, wear a mask when out in public and avoid going out unnecessarily, especially if you feel sick,” Prime Minister Chastanet urged.
