Search on for killers of police officer, teacher in Jamaica

Police are searching for two men who shot and killed a police officer in east Kingston on Wednesday.

They said Constable Toddmar Allen, who was attached to the Mobile Reserve unit, was shot shortly after stopping at a bar.

According to reports, two armed men entered the establishment and fired upon the officer.

The police said Constable Allen ran from the bar to the nearby Rollington Town Police Station where he fired one shot before collapsing at the gate. He later died at hospital.

Police are also searching for the gunman who shot a 35-year-old Grade 6 teacher at his house in Westmeade, Portmore on Wednesday. He later died at hospital.

“The investigation is on in earnest and we are seeking the public’s assistance to provide us with any information,” Senior Superintendent Clive Blair of the St Catherine South police division, said.

He said that Clevon Campbell was attacked at his home during the early hours of Wednesday and when the gunmen broke into the house.

The police said a struggle ensued between Campbell and the armed intruder, which ended with the teacher being shot several times.

“A lot of students were having problems dealing with it, but it is beginning to settle in and the guidance teams have been guiding them through as how best to cope under the circumstances,” said Roy John-Keith, Principal of Belmont Park Primary.
