CASTRIES, St. Lucia, Nov 17 2015 – The French Ambassador to St. Lucia and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Eric De La Moussaye, has confirmed that security has been beefed up at the embassy here following the terrorist attack in Paris last Friday that left more than 129 people dead.

“We are in St. Lucia which is not a country with as much risk as in Europe, but we must always pay attention because you know we are targets everywhere for terrorists,” the French diplomat said.

Moussaye said that the embassy which serves the other member countries of the sub-regional grouping, had requested the St. Lucia government provide additional security and was also grateful for the messages of sympathy from Castries.

The French authorities have blamed the terrorist attacks on the group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) saying the attack on selected targets on Friday night was a declaration of war.

Trinidad and Tobago nationals are reported to have joined the Muslim-based terrorist group and Moussaye said Paris regards Muslims as friends.

“We have no problem with any religion; the problem is extremists – the people who say they are Muslims and commit acts of terror. We are concerned about that,” he added.
