Seventh Summit of the Americas Kicks off in Panama

PANAMA CITY, Panama, April 11 2015 – The Seventh Summit of the Americas will kick off today in the Anayansi Theatre, ATLAPA Convention Center in Panama City, where the attendance of Heads of State and Government from 35 Latin American, Caribbean and North America countries is expected.

A considerable number of leaders confirmed their presence at the meeting, including Cuban President Raul Castro.

Cuba participates in this kind of events that began in 1994 in Miami, USA, for the first time due to the solidarity claim of Latin America and the Caribbean countries in recognition of its contribution to the integration process underway in the economic, commercial and financial terms.

Leaders of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America Trade Agreement of the People, as Evo Morales, Rafael Correa and Nicolas Maduro, presidents of Bolivia, Ecuador and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, respectively, also travelled to Panama city.

While the leaders have their working sessions until tomorrow, in the auditorium of the University of Panama over 400 representatives of the peoples of the South have theirs in parallel, to discuss fundamental issues of development and peace in the region.

One of the issues they will discuss is the executive order of US President Barack Obama against Venezuela, as he said it was a threat to US security, and the lifting of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade to Cuba for over 50 years.
