Simmons returns as Windies Head Coach

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has appointed Phil Simmons as full time head coach of the Windies senior men’s team.

The announcement was made by CWI on Monday afternoon that Simmons will be returning on a four year contract.

Simmons previously served in the role for a short period during which he coached the team to the 2016 ICC Twenty20 World Cup title, before his dismissal by the former CWI administration.

He served since as the head coach of Afghanistan, who he helped qualify for the first time for last summer’s ICC World Cup. His tenure as head coach of Ireland, saw them improve their ICC rankings and qualify for all major ICC events.

Simmons’ latest coaching success came just two days ago when he coached the Barbados Tridents to the Caribbean Premier League title with win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors in Saturday’s Final.
