St. Kitts Gets First-Ever Female Cabinet Secretary

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 24, 2015 – Former Head of the Public Service Commission and Police Service Commission, Mrs. Josephine Huggins, has been sworn in as the first female Cabinet Secretary of St. Kitts and Nevis.

High Court Commissioner of Oaths, Kenley Henry, administered the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy at the beginning of the first working session of the Cabinet of the new Team Unity government, headed by Dr. Timothy Harris.

Mrs. Huggins, who hails from Dieppe Bay, St. Kitts, has more than 30 years of public service experience in both St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. She served as Assistant Comptroller of Inland Revenue in St. Kitts and Nevis between 1970 and 1992. A renowned businesswoman, Mrs. Huggins is a proprietor of East Caribbean Printers, located at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Estate.

In welcoming the new Cabinet Secretary, Prime Minister Harris praised her wealth of experience and knowledge of the workings of both the public and private sectors.
